Method and limitations

How Luko estimates calories and macros from food

Luko combines the meal information you provide with AI-assisted food analysis, then gives you an editable result. The estimate is useful when its limits remain visible.

What the estimate can use

For a photo, the system can reason from visible foods and portions. For text or voice, it can use the ingredients, amounts, and preparation details you mention. Clearer inputs generally provide a better starting point, but they still do not create laboratory-level measurements.

  • Visible food types and approximate portions
  • Ingredients and quantities included in your description
  • Preparation details you provide, such as fried, baked, or dressed

What the estimate cannot know reliably

A single image often cannot reveal hidden ingredients, recipe ratios, cooking oil, sauces, product brands, or exact weight. Restaurant meals and mixed dishes can vary substantially even when they look similar.

Why editing is part of the method

Luko presents items and servings for review before confirmation. Correcting a portion, ingredient, or nutrition value is not a failure of the workflow; it is the step that lets your knowledge of the meal improve the machine-generated starting point.

How daily targets are formed

The personal plan starts from established energy equations, activity assumptions, and goal adjustments, then converts energy into macro targets. The detailed citations and current in-app formulas are maintained on Luko’s official Nutrition Sources page.
